Beliefs

We all hope that children in the 21st century are able to embrace a bright world and future. The education reform over the years have overturned the present conditions in our educational environment. However, valuing every childs individuality, catering for different learner needs, and developing pupils talents to full potential have always been Chi Hsiens perpetual beliefs from Open Education, Small Class Teaching,to the most recent School-based Curriculum. Chi Hsien, a school of dedicated teachers and diligent pupils, is sticking to its beliefs in the trends of education reform and using the most appropriate method to facilitate childrens learning. Respect, cooperation, gratitude and excellence are thebeautiful vision of Chi Hsien and we expect that every Chi Hsien pupil can be thus nurtured in the new century.Beholding the world from Chi Hsien, we are confident to cultivate ourselves to be happy Chi Hsien pupils embodying both folk sentiments and global views to well presentourselves outside the school.

Curriculum

1. We have a School Curriculum Developing Committee to design different learning programs appropriate and relevant to pupils needs and abilities. 2. We organize teaching teams at all grade levels to design theme-based integrative curriculum and to plan out the appropriate learning activities for each level. 3. We develop a general curricular plan, using language teaching as the center to integrate the seven major subject areas and adopting the Multiple Assessment Method to evaluate pupils learning process and outcomes. 4. We conduct the Wang Ming Te Teaching Approach, adopt the Multiple Assessment Method, plan the Integrated Coordinated Curriculum, develop Small Class Teaching, and experiment on the Nine-Year Joint Curriculum. We are now developing our School-Based Curriculum in order to include the most updated teaching methods and resources every year.

Teaching

1. We implement the Wang Ming Te Teaching Approach in order to promote pupils four language skillsXlistening, speaking, reading and writing. 2. We apply Open Education and promote Small Class Teaching to meet different learner needs and ability. 3. We emphasize language teaching by incorporating both speech and writing joint teaching and theme-based integrative teaching in the school curriculum. 4. We arrange different outdoor activities, field trips, and country excursions to extend the variety and depth of pupilsexperiential learning. 5. We have a Resource Center where specialist teachers provide pupils with additional support to deal with their learning difficulties and to enhance their learning strategies. 6. Each classroom in the school is well equipped with teaching facilities, including teaching aids, CD player, OHP, TV, VCD player, and internet access. 7. Teachers from each grade form a study group and invite experts in the related areas to make suggestions as to how they can improve knowledge and skills in teaching. 8. We promote IT education and encourage pupilsactive participation in different IT competitions in order to equippupils with the ability of using IT as a tool for lifelong learning. 9. Teachers specialized in EFL teaching provide fun English lessons to 3 to 6 graders. 10.Incorporating the resources in the community, we design and edit materials to teach pupils knowledge and understanding of the surrounding environment and folk culture.
